Proper footwear is important, especially considering the amount of time we spend wearing shoes on a daily basis. When selecting a shoe, comfort and support is paramount for the overall health and comfort of the feet. Some suggestions to consider while choosing shoes are discussed bellow.
- It is best if your shoe has a slight heel (up to two inches).
This moves your line of gravity from the heal, to the arch of your foot. - Make sure the heel is not too high. This puts too much pressure on the forefoot resulting in soreness and discomfort.
- If your feet have a low arch, it is important that your shoe provides support for side to side movements to avoid twisting in the foot. At the same time it should be able to bend to allow proper movement for walking.
- If you suffer from Bunions or Hallux valgus you must have shoes which have a wide front. This is to prevent side pressure to the forefoot
